Bensalem Township is a territory in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA and also surrounds the northeast section of Philadelphia. The township is made up of many neighborhoods, including Andalusia, Bensalem, Bridgewater, Cornwells Heights, Eddington, Flushing, Oakford, Siles, Trappe, and Trevose. Bensalem Territory has no bundled districts (city or borough) within its limits. As of the 2010 demographics, the township had a complete population of 60,427, that makes it one of the most booming community in Bucks County, and also the ninth most inhabited town in Pennsylvania. The area, which was founded in 1692, is almost as old as Pennsylvania itself, which was founded in 1682.
The beginning of the name Bensalem most likely originates from recommendations made by inhabitant Joseph Growden, who called his estate Manor of Bensalem in honor of William Penn and also the Semitic term for peace, Salem. It was originally named Salem; the first syllable Ben was added in 1701.
The area of Bensalem Area was likely distinct by 1682 as it shows up on the Holme Map, assumed not yet with a name. By 2 January 1685, the boundary was fixed between Bensalem and also Philadelphia County along the Poquessing Creek. At the September session in 1692 of the Court of Bucks Region, a court of thirteen guys was developed to define limits of divisions that had actually been produced up to that time. The report submitted in December states that “All the lands in between Neshamineh and Poquessin, therefore to the upper side of Joseph Growden’s land in one as well as to be called ‘Salem.'” It therefore appears that the given name of the territory was ‘Salem’. The minutes of the Board of Property of the Province on 19 November 1701 at Philadelphia noted the name of the area as ‘Bensalem’. The population of the area was first a couple of Dutch and also Swedes, then later a bigger increase of English, and after that added Dutch cleared up the location.
Bensalem is the most southern town in Bucks Area and also is bordered by the Northeast Philadelphia area of the city of Philadelphia to the west and also southern, Croydon and the rest of Bristol Township to the east and also northeast, the district of Hulmeville as well as Middletown Town to the north, and also Feasterville, Trevose, and also Oakford in Lower Southampton Town to the northwest. Across the Delaware River in Burlington Area, New Jersey to the southeast, there are the city of Beverly, Delanco Area, as well as Edgewater Park Township.
According to the United States Demographics Bureau, the area has a complete location of 21.0 square miles (54 km2), of which, 20.0 square miles (52 km2) of it is land and 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2) of it (4.77%) is water.
The Autumn Line, which divides the Atlantic Coastal Plain region from the Piedmont area, goes through Bensalem, and also shows up around the Neshaminy Shopping center area. The Neshaminy Creek forms the natural eastern boundary as well as Poquessing Creek develops the natural western limit of the town.
Natural features consist of Barnsleys Ford, Mill Creek, Neshaminy Creek, Neshaminy Falls, Partridge Point, Poquessing Creek, as well as White Sheet Bay.
